Polyroad Tested in Lappland
Polyroad has been tested in Lappland, Rovaniemi, the official home of
Santa (approximately 1,000 kms north of Helsinki) on the Arctic Circle 60 degrees North. Field trips included a special meeting
with Santa,

and in-depth discussions with the Lapland people who are very pleased
with results.

We also had a meeting with Professor Pauli Kolisoja from Tampere
University Finland, (email:
kolisoja@butler.cc.tut.fi), where stabilisation trials of Polyroad and
other products were conducted and a 17 page preliminary
report/paper has
been produced.
Roadwork will be done in Northern Finland in the spring (April/May
2004).
Freeze-thaw is a continuing problem for pavements in these areas and
early indications are that Polyroad has resisted the ingress of water and
minimised the weathering of surface seals or asphalt from expanding and
failing.
Mr Timo Saarenketo of Roadscanners, (website:
www.roadscanners.com) is responsible for developing tests/indicators
to anticipate these conditions (refer to his paper - Tampere University Finland
Report (PDF, 1612 KB)).
The Finish people, especially Santa and the Lapplanders, were extremely
hospitable and I look forward to my return visit.
